BlooSee Updates

BlooSee updated & other news

BlooSee website updated on January You may have noticed some changes on the system, as we’ve updated it to improve useability. Better groups First thing you’ll see is that we’ve split the former “Community” area into two new tabs: “Friends” and “Groups”. The latter has seen major changes: you now have the ability to create...

BlooSee updated

We’ve just updated our production server with a code refresh. Changes include: Extended data panel for infopoints automatically opens when adding/editing infopoints. Also, more types of infopoints have extended fields than before. Photo albums have a clearer navigation, where you first see all pictures as thumbnails, and then choose which one you want to start...

Improved infopoint taxonomy

We’ve re-worked the infopoint taxonomy — and we all know sometimes small changes make big differences! The addition of a couple of types under Facilities (namely Yacht club, and Sailing school) is something we should have done a while ago, and some users were asking for them. So here they are. But we’ve also re-thought...

BlooSee on open waters

This blog has been pretty silent for the last weeks/months (oops!) but this didn’t mean the activity had slowed down — on the contrary! The main news is that this last week we’ve opened our gates and now anyone can register at BlooSee, which is of course something we’ve been after for a long time!...

A week in the Bay Area

We just came back from a week in the San Francisco Bay Area. However beautiful the zone is, the truth is we went there to work. Actually, to promote and pitch our project around. And, to be honest, it went really well! We’ve been driving back and forth in the Peninsula, as well as San...

Getting ready and getting excited

Although the idea had crossed my mind on and off for a while, I started to really think about BlooSee back in the summer of 2007. Yes, that long ago. Of course it didn’t have a name at the time. It was the “nautical web project”, and it seemed like a cool idea basically because...

On types of users we’re hoping to have

Following the previous post about infopoint categories, let me just signal that this is closely related to the type of users we want BlooSee to have: every possible sea-lover out there. Although I am a cruising sailor, and so are other team members, we’ve tried from the start to have a broad approach to how...

What it looks like

Since the system is private for the moment, I thought I’d share some screen captures to show what it looks like. You can click on each image to see a larger version. But first let me show you some of the preliminary designs we developed: Although we had some okay-looking designs, before coding the actual...

First status report

This project was but an idea on (virtual) paper about a year ago, but we’re currently getting ready to launch the first beta version with actual users. I thought it would be clarifying to shortly mention where we are, what we’ve accomplished so far and what are our expectations for the near future.

About the project

Bloo See is a new web-based project targeted at sailors and sea-lovers in general, a place to exchange geographic data related to navigation (harbors, anchorages, dangers, navigation aids, etc.), create and share routes, as well as a social network oriented towards people with interests in the sea environment. The core of the system is a...
