New tool on the map: distance calculator
Listening to user feedback, we’ve added a new tool on the map very helpful when planning routes: a distance calculator (activate it by clicking on its name or icon on top of the map). It works in a very similar way as to using a distance divider (or measuring compass) would on a physical chart: you have two points that you can move around, and the tool will draw a line and show you the distance between them. A circle is also drawn showing all points placed at the same distance from the center (see the associated screen capture — you can click on it to enlarge). Whenever you’re done, just click “Hide distance calculator” and it will disappear from the map (only until the next time you need it!).
As usual, we’re working on new features that we’ll announce as soon as they’re online.

A week in the Bay Area
We just came back from a week in the San Francisco Bay Area. However beautiful the zone is, the truth is we went there to work. Actually, to promote and pitch our project around. And, to be honest, it went really well!
We’ve been driving back and forth in the Peninsula, as well as San Francisco itself, presenting BlooSee to key persons in the Valley, either technology or business development related. This includes large corporations, VCs, entrepreneurs, etc. The positive feedback we’ve gotten has exceeded our expectations, and we’re back into development with renewed energy. We’ve done extended presentations during meetings as well as short elevator pitches. Everybody seems to like the project and the implementation as well. The best reactions, of course, come after the person has had the opportunity to see the beta version in action. The user interface, the simplicity of operations and the current (and future) functionalities are the best value we have. Together with the positive feedback from our testers as well, we are looking at a promising project — and now we can say don’t just take our word for it!
Apart from our project, the Bay Area is an exciting place to be from the technology standpoint. Of course this is no big news, but even though we’ve been there before, each time we have a chance to meet with entrepreneurs developing their projects there the energy it provides seems to be limitless. Networking does work (people point you in every possible direction so you can reach someone else that can help you out in one way or another) and the responses are always positive and optimistic (in spite of the rough seas of the current economy).
We finally couldn’t go out to sail in the Bay as we’d hoped for… but we’ll return there to do so as soon as we get a chance!
